Q&A with Expert Judge: Helen Weedon, Managing Director, Radical Moves
Q. What excites you most about judging this year’s Women Leaders in Electronics Awards?
I’ve judged these awards for the past two years and each time I am awe struck by the talent and achievements from every single entrant. I am looking forward to reading about these women and being a part of celebrating their success.
Q. Why do you think the Women Leaders in Electronics Awards are important for the electronics sector, especially in recognising and elevating women’s leadership?
It would be nice if we no longer needed to raise women specifically above the parapet but unfortunately we don’t yet have an equal number of women in leadership positions across the electronics sector compared to men. Awards like this are both important for celebrating the achievements of those women in the industry, as well as encouraging others that there is a place for them and giving them something to aspire to.
Q. What practical advice or criteria would you share to help entrants stand out in the awards?
I think sometimes we, as women, have a tendency to undersell ourselves. If you are entering yourself, be confident of your place in these awards and shout about your achievements. Explain clearly what you (or someone you are nominating) has done and what impact that has had on the business, their career, those around them, and / or the industry.
